A “Sentimental” Journey with Beth Bernstein

Join ASJH on a sentimental journey through the jewelry that speaks of love, passion, affection, friendship, and devotion with Beth Bernstein, author of the new book, A Modern Guide to Jewellery (ACC Artbooks, April/May 2022). Beth will take us on a tour from 15th-century poesy rings to the Georgian and Victorian era's romantic jewels - a time when people could not speak freely of their emotions and instead sent symbolic pieces of jewelry to share their feelings of love and friendship with the recipient. Acrostic and rebus pieces, hair and mourning jewels, and the iconic motifs of the past that still today reflect the same meanings will all be included. Beth will also touch on the 20th century and the celebrities who received pieces as lavish gestures of passion and jewels that bespoke the love story of famous couples which she covered in her previous book If These Jewels Could Talk.

Beth Bernstein is the author of four well-known books on jewelry and is a contributor to many magazines, journals, and publications, some of which include Forbes Online, Jewelry Connoisseur, and TheJewelleryEditor.com. She lectures, runs, and participates in seminars and her jewelry magazine Bejeweledmag.org, was launched in 2017.
